I'm taking 25mg DHEA once a day, and I want to take Nettle root to act as a aromatase inhibitor. Anybody has suggestions or links to find what dosage might I start with?

Thanks.

And sorry for asking so much and contributing so little. I'll revert that as soon as I have some more developed anecdotes :) for us non-scientists it's not that easy to have a lot to add here, besides our subjective accounts.

I'm very thankful with y'all.

How would this help you? I take nettle root for hair loss.

This is so DHEA increases free Testosterone

I've never heard stinging nettle root acting as an aromatase inhibitor. Nettle root was popular in the bodybuilding crowd to increase free testosterone by the nettle root binding sex hormone binding globulin thus preventing the SHBG from binding with free testosterone thereby allowing more testosterone to remain free and unbound. But this only worked short term if not cycled as ultimately the body would compensate by increasing SHBG levels. But aromatase is not affected and as such, it will not prevent DHEA from preferentially aromatizing to estrogen.

Because it contains 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran, certain extracts of the nettle are used by bodybuilders in an effort to increase free testosterone by occupying sex-hormone binding globulin[12]

edit: Both high dose resveratrol (500mg) and/or grape seed extract (300mg) will potently inhibit aromatase.

Thanks for that clarification. My lack of science is not helping. What would you recommend to take DHEA with to avoid turning into estrogen?

You probably missed my edit but resveratrol and grape seed extract are both known to inhibit aromatase. Resveratrol will need to be at least 300-500 mg and grape seed extract needs to be at least 300mg from my understanding. Either (or both) taken in one shot once per day.

Thanks. I already take both, but in much smaller doses. I don't want to take more Res, due to potential joint pain. Grape seed extract sounds good, though

Actually, I'd bet the DHEA works wonders for the resveratrol joint pain. Also, many people find vitamin D3 helps with the res joint pain, if you experience it.

But why take a supplement that causes joint pain via some unknown mechanism? (Yes, I know some people think they know the mechanism but it is all just speculation.) And even if resveratrol indeed significantly inhibits aromatase (which I doubt), can you really confidently say that there will not be long term deleterious consequences of inhibiting aromatase in brain tissue, bone, blood vessels, etc.?

I don't have the answer to any of that. I basically want to take DHEA to have more free T. I'm 43 and I think it's a good idea to use a pro-hormone. I read that along with DHEA it's a good idea to take an aromatase inhibitor to avoid it turning into estrogen. Did I get it wrong?

Viveut, what's your suggestion along these lines?

I would try Indol-3-carbinol for bad estrogens prevetion and for aromatase inhibitor there's a good list:

Brassaiopsis Glumerulata
Massularia acuminata
Alpha mangostin from Mangosteen
Prunella Vulgaris
Calcium D-Glucarate
Formastane
Mega dose Zinc

Calcium D-Glucarate at only 500 mg once a day worked well for me in lowering estradiol blood levels, and it's known to have other health benefits too. I take both DHEA and Pregnenolone, and I believe the Preg raised my testosterone. I also take the I3C for safety and get a yearly blood test. There is more info on this subject at qualitycounts.com (scroll down to #17) but personally I would stay away from any prescription-type aromatase inhibitors.

Nettle probably isn't going to help unless you get an extract standardized for divanil. You could try indole 3 carbinol, resveratrol or grape seed as someone else suggested. I3c isn't so much an ai as it is mean estrogen modulator. There is currently a craze for a product right now in the bodybuilding community which is a metabolite of dhea Androst-3,5-dien-7,17-dione which lowers cortisol and reputedly estrogen. Not sure if its against forum rules to link to that product.

Estrogen balance in man is a difficult part in the male body. To much lead to brain fog fat gain ect, to low lead to joint pain and brain fog erections problems.
Finding a good dose of grape seed, need some measurements and adjustments over time.

Especially if you don't do additional blood work, its rise and fall to listen to your body to find your dose. Messing with hormones without bloodwork on`higher` age is a stupid action i think

like earlier mentioned by Hebbeh its somewhere 300 mg if i take ~/ 200 i wil get no low neither high estrogen sides. )i am a small man

to avoid problems start with a low dose and than work up.

just the leaves of nettle root take about two table spoons a day get results personally, stuf is realy cheap and its worth a schot

Good luck
