So I've noticed that I"m more likely to fast when I'm in very high-dopamine environments.

There are two such environments: video game worlds and novel environments.

E.g. I went to NYC for the first time in my life over break and noticed that while I explored NYC, it was really easy for me to go without eating for hours on end (while *also* taking a break from my ADD meds) due to the novelty of the environment and also the general expensiveness of NYC food (which also helped me go for longer without food).

What are your strategies? Bear in mind that I have ADD so I have the self-control of a hermit crab

I am planning on shooting a nutrition QnA video and one of the most popular questions I get is the IF one. I think that the most important thing to consider with IF, no matter if you wanna do the Warrior Diet (eat one meal), 16/8 aka Lean Gains, alternate day fasting aka Eat, Stop, Eat: a healthy relationship with food. I know that Martin Berkhan says that he was eating cheesecake but that's idiotic. This is a longevity website and any sort of "diet" needs to be both for HEALTH purposes and SUSTAINABLE .long term.

Anywho, You get used to is basically is the easier of way saying it. After the first few days I personally had no problem waiting until 2-4 PM to eat. Leptin levels go down and ghrelin levels go up. So, I don't feel hungry as when I did before and I feel full/satiated easier.

Keeping yourself busy/on the go, is obviously a great strategy so is mixing some raw cacao with water should help you also :)

I'm Jewish and this past Yom Kippur was the easiest one by far which I attribute to my IF.

my two cents.

I too have found novel experiences/environments put me into fasts much more easily. I am always reminded of the 2 times that I went to Israel on a 12 day group trip. On these trips I was spending 8-9 hours a day walking the city in 90 degree heat followed by partying hard almost every night, and both trips I easily was cutting down my calories 30-40% less than normal and ended up losing significant weight in a short time span, all while feeling great and having better mood and energy than I typically do.

I'm pretty fit, but I work a desk job in an office where honestly I find myself bored more often that I would like. So going on these trips into a tropical land and being around 30 people of my own age and getting lots of physical activity and social activity, (and some theological/conceptual thinking), I had so much energy and felt so great, for a while I thought there must be drugs in the water of this strange land! The extra pounds just fell off so easily I am still amazed by it, and I don't have a ton of weight to lose, I'm 5'10 170 lbs maybe 15% bmi, but I would easily come back 10lbs lighter.

I was drinking and partying late almost every night and would often jump up after 5 hours of sleep (after drinking mind you) feeling very good, better than I often do at home after any unlimited hours of sleep. Needing less sleep seems to be a classic sign of extra dopamine stimulation. I also was smoking cigarettes like a chimney both times which happens to me only due to dopamine really. I would make a point to eat a big bfast but the rest of the day was very low cal and not even caring for food really. I'm wondering now if maybe the extra physical activity plus low cal intake was pushing me into ketosis, I wonder if you can drink 5-6 beers at night and still get into ketosis the next day?

I get bored easily with most video games or end up feeling guilty for not doing something more productive, so it doesn't have that effect for me.

Don't be around food, don't be near food, slap yourself whenever you think about food.

Fast for a day or two when the fridge is empty.

Study, write, do your hobbies, keep yourself occupied.

Remind yourself of how awesome you'll feel if you don't eat anything for a while!
