Hmm I was wondering,
If some strong will has overtook you and all you desired at the moment was to grab some snack, what would you choose?
The thingy with lots of saturated fat and calories but without sugar, or the thingy loaded with sugar and much much less saturated fat and less calories? (supposing these are the only snacks around).
Smarties vote for Other, you must have a good reason.

Please consider health conditions, and personal taste (and if you have more criteriums... feel free to add)
Whatever you choose, please give reasons.

I'll tell you why I made this poll, it happened to me once when I just needed something and didn't know which to pick, I wanted the less harming, and was wondering what you'd do. However, I took the fatty snack without sugar and then went out to run...

By the way, which it the worst?

"Usually" I try to avoid sugars in favor of fats (hopefully nonsaturated). This is mainly because I am relatively thin and can afford to gain a few pounds. Sugar is just plain bad for you. Its bad for your teeth. Its bad for your complexion. And its just bad for your health in general. I will however pick fresh fruits (which have sugars in them) over other, processed snacks if given the opportunity.

I voted fatty/no sugar, but only if its String Cheese, some hard cheeses or Natural Peanut-butter.

Hehe well John, you should work more on your will power [tung] Heh, I suppose that's a good reason to vote Other. Accepted heh.

Yes, Don, well thin people have less problems with fatty food once in a while, luckily I am thin and taking care of remaining so. However, you males are lucky don't have to work too hard for it, females has a different story of struggling with it every day.
Fruits are definitely better than both options above since they include mostly also necessary vitamins, but this was in case there is no fruits at home heh.
I avoid both above, but rarely I get to really desire some special snack from what's at home, and as I said, I picked the fatty-no-sugar, and went to burn it by running.
I'm a female, that's not easy to remain thin, but I believe it's worth it, and going great.
After a month without snacks, the body doesn't even bother asking it. So it's now pretty easy as I stopped long ago. The problem is when there is a temptation and then you gotta try hard another month...

Heh well, I believe it answered straight to the question. No additions. [thumb]

Hehehe, well but Elrond, you are also fasting once a week, so the snack will fill this day... And you're also the iron man [lol]

But about sugar... err ok only if that's once in a very long time ;)

Smarty, also voted Other, but I admit- it is justified.

Hehehe, well apples ain't that bad, only a bit of too much sugar O.O
If there are apples in the case, that's much better than cookies or whatever.

If they're easily accessible (I'm too lazy to chop) carrots. Otherwise I'd have nuts, which are high fat low sugar.

I find it funny why the people who want something good have to explain themselves ;) Well... fats are not death, processed sugar is, and I like beta carotene and the crunchiness.

Lately, I've been really liking chilled grapes or cherry tomatoes. Mmmmm, so cold and juicy!

the moderate sugar, low fat, high complex carb.... usually what a grab at work is a bar made of oats...

its like 30 grams carbs, 12 sugar, 5 fiber, 0 fat... sweet enough to fix the tooth, and enough complex carbs to keep me going and FULL...

Tomatos... I HATE THEM. Hehe. But I do grab some cauliflower or a cucumber when I wanna snack.

If there is no fresh veg out of these I solve it with nuts, yeah.

the notion that fat is less evil is ridiculous. its all about quantity, quality and timing.

my answer:
depends
if its a planned snack then a veggie or some egwhite+oatmeal pancake.
if not: whatever I want, it doesnt happen to often.

I love red grapes. They are so sweet and delicious. Peanuts are my downfall since they have lots of calories in them. I try to keep it down on that. I also like dates, they are like candy. Figs are good but similar to date, too much sugar and calories. Any of those are better than processed food snacks which are nothing but garbage. As Don said, sugar is very bad for you but a little bit of natural sugar in a fruit is fine. I'll also snack on cauliflower now and then. Bananas are good...

An additional reason for carrots: orange skin is awesome and I want it.

I try not to snack, but when I do select fatty foods with no sugar e.g. string chesse, beef jerky. Reason: control of insulin signaling.

since I do brainy work all day long I prefer sugar= fruits/spoonful of molasses/xylitol/cinnamon stick/cocoa-something; anything with a flavor; if I choose fats usually I overdo it. But most of the time one is actually thirsty & not hungry so water++ comes first.
