Obtaining some good, potent Lion's Mane
Real Mushrooms
25 Dec 2015
I would like to do a year long trial with lion manes a well, so if supplements aren't guaranteed potency should I just buy the mushroom and eat it?
Get a quality extract made from fruiting bodies. Ours will be out in January.
If you look at the study I linked they used 3g of dried fruiting body powder per day. That was unextracted so an extract should have more bioavailability. Though no one is testing for hericinones and erinacines, you can still attempt to follow the research studies.
Eating the mushroom wont get you the same bioavailability of the active compounds. Quality extracts are done under high temperature and pressure to fully break down all the fibre and cell walls of the mushroom.

If you want benefits of the NGF chemicals Hericenones and Erinacines (only found in the mycelium) you'll need a meaningful amount of sporocarp (fruiting body) and mycelium.
Amycenone is the only Lion's man extract with standardized Hericenones. Oriveda's makes a sporocarp and mycelium extract.

Just got Oriveda's newsletter last week they introduced an alcohol extracted Lion's Mane based on fruiting body and mycelium, standardised for terpenes (=the NGF-boosters). This is what we've been waiting for. Beta-glucan or polysaccharides are not relevant if you want NGF promotion, the terpenes are.
