Don't be so sure. There are plenty of things mankind could have learned if we actually read the bible. For example back in the days of Moses which was around 3000 years ago, the idea of germs and to wash your hands and clothes to get rid of an 'unclean' state was the common knowledge. Somewhere we lost it and it wasn't until the mid 1800s or so did a doctor (originally laughed at for the idea) that 'invisible' germs could spread infection and disease so to wash your hands! The knowledge was always there to find but no one lookedTake your bible with you then, the greatest inhibitor of learning there ever was
Same reason why eating pork was forbidden back in the day. These days pigs are more or less farmed so not big of an issue but back then the pigs would eat shit (still do I suppose) and rotting flesh. Probably better to eat something else if living 3000 years ago
The bible alluded to the Earth being a sphere as well. Good old science told us it was flat.

I wonder how many people who trash the bible have actually read it. Or do you just go on out of context passages from like minded people on the net or the ramblings of people like shadowhawk who really do religion a great disservice (despite the best of intentions I'm sure).
