So I have tried a few things to try and improve focus and concentration and energy levels.

I work in a sedentary job all day and find it more tiring than prior jobs where I had to move around more.  I get home and have a period of being fairly useless for a few hours.  I have tried a few of the racetams and noopept, choline, l-theanine, ashwangha, rhodiola, jiagulan, tyrosine, salbuthiamine, and a few others.

I found minimal noticable effects on concentration and energy levels.  Modafanil helps but doesn't meet the criteria of short acting (ideally 4-5hours).  L-theanine helps a little as well but not enough.

If I take modafinil any time after noon, it keeps me awake most of the night and leaves me depleted for work.  I would like to maximise study time after work but not end up too stimulated to sleep.  (And reserve modafinil for weekends or cases where I am really short on sleep).

Any ideas for this?  (Obtainable without scripts)

Hydrafinil from ceretropic is a short acting analog of modafinil.

Pitolisant is available from tht.co.

Look up on it. It's basically what you ask for, modafinil like bit with about a 5-6hour half life. Although it doesn't make you as wired as modafinil all day, I still struggle to sleep at night when I take it. But it's definitely more relaxing to take than modafinil.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't realize hydrafanil has a shorter half life.  However, it might not be the greatest choice (in terms of tolerance) since I plan to use modafinil on the weekends and something during weekdays as well.  I think that something with a different mechanism might be better.

Is pitolisant something you need to inject?  I was just reading a thread where the description said he injected it.

Should I assume the normal way of taking it is sublingual?

I used to take Rasagiline, Modafinil and caffeine and never had trouble falling asleep, but then again I do have chronic fatigue and will sleep 12 hours when non-medicated. You should try reducing your modafinil dose. That or try instant-release Methylphenidate, it lasts about 3 hours.

Reducing the dose doesn't reduce the 1/2 life of modafinil.  I don't actually use it much because of the long half life.  I don't need it for my every day job but I do need help with studying.  I am working around 50hrs a week and preparing for professional exams.  The job is mostly at a desk so that leaves me feeling pretty flat by the end of the day.  I recently started cycling so I am hoping that will help to improve my state of mind and wakefulness.  Sitting all day at work and then coming home to sit again is not ideal.  There were also other problems such as having had a mild amount of post general anaesthetic cognitive dysfunction.

So the idea is to reserve modafinil for the weekends instead of using it at work when it is not required.

Pitolisant and hydrafanil sound like they both have potential.  I just worry about tolerance with hydrafanil and pitolisant looks like it is only available from one source.

I don't think methylphenidate is available online.
