I do resistance training 2-3x a week where I often take 7g of citrulline malate about 45m before hitting the gym.  I get a noticeable vasodilatory effect from this combo and feel great using it with no signs of viral activation issues or unwanted side effects.  Reading about arginine / NO2, I'm wondering if citrulline runs the risk of mitochondrial damaging peroxynitrite formation (or other damaging metabolites / gene expression?)  If so might that be a hormetic effect at a 2x/wk dose around exercise?  I'm trying to decide whether to keep this supplement or toss it.

That much all at once could be hard on the kidneys.  Ive taken a gram or so in a half a cup of water (very tart), and i had minor back pain a few hours later.

Kidneys have the job of converting it to L-arginine.
