Hi everyone,

I’m posting because I’ve had great experience with MCT. It helps me concentrate for longer periods of time than I normally would be able to, because I have a problem where I get ridiculously tired after just a few hours of studying. MCT Oil greatly relieves that.

Additionally, I feel that piracetam only works for me when I take it with it.

I want to hear about anyone who also had success (or not) with MCT, and I’m also interested in the experiences from people who had found products that are similar in effect or complement well with it.

My hypothesis is that medium chain fatty acids increase mitochondrial metabolism in the brain, so I want to find other things that may increase brain ATP and or mitochondrial activity. Sadly, I have tried ALA, ALCAR and CoQ10, but they did not work for me.

Someone also suggested that MCT may also have cognitive effects because of its antimicrobial activity.

Some information about MCFA

from http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/36/5/950.full.pdf

  • Medium Chain Triglycerides from coconut oil are mainly composed of glycerol esters of decanoic acid and octanoic acid.

  • They acyl-CoA specific for medium chain fatty acids is located in the mitochondrial matrix

  • Excess acetyl-CoA from MCFA metabolisms goes towards the production of ketone bodies.

from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24383952

  • Decanoic acid may result in increased mitochondrial number and mitochondrial activity.

from http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278584614002048.

  • Medium chain fatty acids readily cross the blood brain barrier.

I found that creatine may be a good candidate so I’m trying it right now too.

Some information about Creatine

from http://www.annualreviews.org/doi/full/10.1146/annurev.nutr.27.061406.093621

  • Creatine exerts many of its functions by increasing phosphocreatine levels, thereby permitting very rapid regeneration of ATP after a burst of ATP utilization.

  • Creatine may have other important metabolic functions in the brain.

I’m having a roadblock in my research for similar substances and I would greatly appreciate your help and experience related to stuff that may increase brain ATP levels and/or has a positive effect in brain mitochondrial metabolism.

Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of the stuff! I've been starting my mornings with some extra Ketosis-powered pep in my step after sipping MCT-infused coffee. I dump about a half scoop of the powder into my coffee along with some Irish butter and cinnamon. On 24-hour fast days, I'll do a full scoop - this helps keep hunger cravings at bay.

I have tried MCT, but I am trying to get some effects of ketosis and I found Ketone Ester to be more effective (mainly for its GABAergic effects on neurons).
