There are multiple studies which show how anorexia causes brain shrinkage, memory issues, hormonal changes, shifted intestine microbiota, etc. How do we know none of this is going to happen to cronies? As far i know brain shrinkage could be a response to preserve brain function (given the fast bounce back once on eucaloric diet).

A few points:
- CR has been shown to prevent or reduce brain atrophy in animals and even rhesus monkeys on long term calorie restriction
- CR has been shown to improve memory in animals and humans
- Hormone changes are part of CR, it decreases both testosterone in men and estrogen in women. At a certain point you're likely to have high level of these hormones than ad lib persons because of the slower rate of decline.
- Intestinal microbiota is improved by CR (see the CR study on dogs).
Sorry I don't have time go fetch all the references for you, but they are available on this forum.
