My preferences got changed in two ways, my posts are double posting, and people I mute still turn up. Design flaws: you can't specify how often you'd want to hear from a particular poster, you can't delete a particular tweet from your feed, and people aren't given the option of telling you why they unfollow you. I don't believe that people are digesting the info coming at them. How could you, if you have over a hundred followers? Even if you mute most of them, it's still not possible to digest the info, much of which is cryptic. I feel like we are all talking at once and no one is really listening.
