I just didn't fell like cooking something fancy tonight, so I got this cheap tomato pesto, made with sunflower oil and cashew nuts.
Damn, I wish I had avoided it. Starting about one hour after eating the pesto, I felt my inner omega-6-to-3-ratio slowly but inescapably shifting out of balance and all those nasty pro-inflammatory leucotrienes popping up everywhere inside my body. In panic I ran to the fridge, almost collapsed on the way to the kitchen, and with the last of my strength I mananged to open the door and to pick out the bottle of flaxseed oil. My shaky, inflamed hands wouldn't hold the bottle, so it crashed to the floor and the precious antidote spilled all over. I collapsed and the last thing I managed to do was to lick some of the oil from the floor. Then I fainted. An hour or two later I awoke with a bad headache but felt the white army of flaxseed oil-derived eicosanoids wrestling down their evil omega-6 opponents. Another hour and they were defeated. Now I feel fine again, only somewhat exhausted.
This horrible experience should go as a warning to you! Avoid those nasty omega-6s like the plague and make sure that you always have some omega-3 antidote at hand in case of an emergency like mine. It doesn't bear contemplating what may have happend to me if I didn't manage.... no, I really don't want to think about it!
