Rather than have multiple threads with all the different results coming in today please post the results here for your state and local tallies as well as important regional and local elections, referendum etc.. These not only include the Federal races but it might be interesting to see how the State houses shift as well even local races that move in one distinct direction or another.
I have already voted and I noticed that the polls are definitely filling up even in our remote region so I expect a record turnout.
I am also interested to see if our Institute polling reflects how this nation goes, though there is no reason to suspect that since we are a very small and unscientific sample that has a very narrow focus, which also includes individuals that are not even US citizens able to vote in US elections.
Also please, just like the rules for the polls, keep the campaigns away from this thread. I will move any post that starts politicking here from either side so please just give us the results only and leave the opinions to the all too numerous threads available for that purpose. Thanks.
BTW maps of various national, state and local demographics are allowed as well as links to acceptance and capitulation speeches. I think having a record of this historic event on all the multiple levels will be constructive for future study. Also links to the platforms for any candidate are also allowed but direct links only, not the interpretation of those positions by the opposing sides. IOW's I do not want Obama sites explaining McCain positions, just the links to McCain's official positions directly and Obama's positions directly.

By the way, here is the final polling data going into election day from the experts:
I think these numbers make it very clear that just like the Iraq War... John McCain is being sent to the slaughter with this election.

McCain leads in Kentucky at the moment and Obama leads in Indiana. Also for now the first returns show McCain in a marginal lead in the popular vote as well but much of this is also from early voting results.
Here are two web sites to watch and there are many more. Feel free to add poll watching links folks.

Dunno what you are looking at, I'm seeing a lead for McCain in Indiana currently... ABC, Fox News, and on the radio,McCain leads in Kentucky at the moment and Obama leads in Indiana. Well I was just looking at the very first polls coming out before but now it is turning into a rout. Yes McCain is still ahead in Indiana but actually that race is tightening too.
Obama has taken Pennsylvania, and the Dems have taken out both Dole in North Carolina and Sununu in New Hampshire. Very soon there may not be a single Republican Senator in the Northeast.
It is currently 103 electoral votes for Obama and 58 electoral college votes for McCain.

CNN has it 102-34 as at the time of this post.
___________________________
CNN) -- CNN projects that Sen. Barack Obama will win Pennsylvania, a state that Sen. John McCain campaigned in heavily in the final weeks before the election.
McCain and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, visited the state 10 times in recent weeks as they tried to turn the blue state red.
With the projected win, Obama has 102 electoral votes.
McCain has won 34 electoral votes, according to CNN projections.
Polls are also closed in the key states of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, but the races there are too close to call.
Obama's projected wins include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Vermont and Washington.
McCain is projected to pick up Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.

I have to laugh, the map on Yahoo right now shows McCain with 53%(now 52%) of the present vote but is calling Michigan for Obama. Also New York polls just closed and it has been called for Obama.

I assume it was called based on exit polling, not precincts reporting.

Arizona is too close to call. ARIZONA! That's McCain's home state. That one shouldn't have even been close. He is so toast.
Right now Obama is at 175 EVs locked in. He'll get California so that puts him to 230. Just 40 more to go.

Obama just won Ohio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With Ohio going down, Obama needs 20 EVs now. He's got that in the bag.

West Virginia is moving towards McCain but Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, are going to Obama and Virginia is tightening and may go for Obama as less than 30,000 votes separate the two candidates with 68% of the precincts in.

Damn, I think McConnel pulled it out in Ky. I wanted that turkey gone. It's still possible for a 60 seat majority though, but getting tighter.

MSNBC has it 195 to 85 right now and California, Oregon, and Washington haven't reported yet and the swing states above have not been added into the tally.
We should probably know within the hour who won the presidential election.

It looks like the long term Republican state control of the New York State senate is going over to the Dems.

Another weird one, they are calling New Mexico for Obama even though McCain is winning with 3% of the vote in.

The Republicans may soon have to thank "W" and the religious right for the worst electoral rout in their history.
Talk about irony the state that may *officially* decide the election for Obama may turn out to be Arizona.
MSNBC has it at 200 to 85

As it stands right now with Ohio, Obama just needs 20 EVs to tie this up. He has that with Washington 11, Oregon 7, and Hawaii 4. That puts him to 272.
#29
Posted 05 November 2008 - 02:44 AM
Assuming CNN has it right, once CA, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii are called for Obama, he'll be over the 270 mark. An Obama presidency looks inevitable now.
