I frequently take these two together on an empty stomach. Seeing as how they are both amino acids, do they compete with each for absorption, resulting in a loss in bioavailability? How about Tyrosine with either of those?

I don't believe ALCAR would compete, it may actually enhance the effects of L-theanine for two reasons.

1.) Acetyl Group donor is added, and BDNF is increased. 

2.) L-Theanine readily crosses the BBB but with the mitochondrial and transporting effects of acetylated molecules may in theory bring it to even better absorption.
