Please be aware of this recent study entitled:

The targeted anti‐oxidant MitoQ causes mitochondrial swelling and depolarization in kidney tissue

https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC5880956/

Any comments?

Already discussed by MitoQ CEO here.

Obviously it is his job to downplay any potential negatives so make what you want of it.

Have there been any new developments on mitoQ?

I'm trying to feel out where it sits on the snake-oil <----> super-supplement spectrum.

For anyone following the research - there is a new lifespan study published about MitoQ and other compounds:

https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC7681050/

The experiments were done in the framework of the Intervention Testing Program of the National Institute on Aging. They generally have very high standards, employing cohorts at different labs, large numbers of animals and good animal husbandry.

The intervention started at early-middle age of 7 months. To be short:

there was no effect on median or 90% lifespan for MitoQ. Male mice got a 2% increase, female mice a 2% decrease in median lifespan - but both below statistical significance (P-Value 0,91 and 0,67). 90% survival was similar and even less significant (0,86 and 0,39).

This contradicts another recent study on a genetically inbread strain of mice designed to resemble Alzheimers disease:

https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC7359863/

this study used a much smaller cohort of only female mice and didn't follow up for long enough to do lifespan statistics. But their preliminary findings suggested, that MitoQ normalized lifespan in this type of female mice.

Could have they manipulated the variables any more to achieve a pre-defined result?

One is well advised to ignore such BS and move on.
