My guru for all things resistance training related (diet / supplements / technique) was Charles Poliquin, who just died of a heart attack last month (at the young age of 57.)

Are there any particular supplements that I can take pre or intraworkout that offer some small degree of cardioprotection?  I'm currently taking the NutraBio Intrablast product, which is largely just branched-chain amino acids with a few essential / non-essential aminos.

I wouldn’t be concerned with any cardiac damage during your workouts. Really the best thing would be to avoid extremely heavy lifts where your blood pressure would skyrocket and focus more towards high repetition moderate intensity.

That's what I've been thinking -- up until this point, I've been doing mostly 5x5 stuff and some 3 rep type lifts.  I try breath normally through the exercises, but I imagine there's still some blood pressure raising effects if you're doing something like a inclined leg press with your feet above your heart pushing ~450lbs, or struggling through a bench press.  Closer to the 6x16 rep end of the spectrum, things would be difficult in a different way, but probably with a lot less "pressure."

I was looking at something like the "Extreme Nitric Stack", but it's fairly redundant compared with the intra stack -- more L-Leucine, with some citrulline / beta-alanine.  Or, perhaps something like Beetroot powder (if consuming a bunch of nitrates with fats + proteins doesn't add some weird nitrosamine risk.)

Maybe something with cacao (or agmatine / nitrosigine)... if these don't add some extra viral-activation risk for being a frequent sufferer of HSV1 outbreaks.

Thinking about Linus Pauling, I was considering even L-Lysine... if this doesn't add some gall stone risk.  Or maybe L-glycine / Taurine (sort of redundant with my current intra-workout mix.)  Perhaps, even something like nicotinamide riboside would make sense as a prophalactic.

I'm curious to further explore this space.

As long as you were doing the proper breathing technique‘s in giving yourself adequate rest in between sets so blood pressure isn’t constantly elevated you should be fine. Throw some cardio in for endurance and cardiac health. Beetroot and Citrulline is plenty. This is by far the best beet root . 5 g and it’s fermented.
