Well, niacinamide is known to be a sirt1 antagonist.  (sirtuin inhibitor)
look HERE

Some highlights

Try this PubMed search string:

(sirtuins OR sir2 OR sirt1) AND (niacinamide[tw] OR nicotinamide[tw])

See especially this report:

Anderson RM, Bitterman KJ, Wood JG, Medvedik O, Sinclair DA. Nicotinamide and PNC1 govern lifespan extension by calorie restriction in
Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Nature. 2003 May 8;423(6936):181-5.

inositol hexanicotinate might be a better source.

FWIW, I don't consider Dr. Weil to be the most authoritative source.

I concur... also feel the same about Dr. Perricone. I find more of a commercial approach rather than the more science-based arguements of AOR. I don't feel there is a multi that compares to AOR's Multi Basics 3 or Ortho Core, but that's just how I think.

Can we at least try to keep this thread on topic, which is "Resveratrol extends lifespan in mice and health", not "My vitamin is better than your vitamin."

Open up a new topic if you want to discuss vitamins, or find one of the old ones and revive it.

Sheesh.

In so far as certain vitamins inhibit sirtuins (niacinamide) which is the opposite of what resveratrol's mode of action is thought to be, some discussion of vitamins is related to resveratrol and its effects.

FWIW, 2.2 grams of resveratrol a day is the best arthritis medication I've ever used.

I agree. What's more I don't see how a person so visibly out of shape can be a health guru. I guess the same could be said for out of shape docs.

Will do. My response will be found in the thread Mirian opened to plug Perfect Multi Super Greens.

What type of arthritis do you have?

Here are my results from taking about one gram of resveratrol (Paul Wakfer) per day for 6 mos
I am a 73 yr old man, 5'11", 155 lbs---- 6 mo ago was 165 lbs.
My fasting glucose is 84 to 91------------ 6 mo ago was 100 to 105

I have been doing the same weekly exercise routine (0ne set only) for 20+ years.

I went from 10 chin-ups to 15 to 18 now.
With 33 lbs dumb bells, I went from 10 curls/overhead press (each arm) to 15.
Bench press (same dumb bells) 20 to 25, now 30 to 40.

The rest of my routine is not done to failure ( except for golf ^_^ I am proud to say I shot 72
last week. I do NOT credit RSV for this. My index is 13 !)
I walk or play golf 4 to 5 days per week. My walking endurance has improved...hard to put a
number on that.

I increased my RSV from 40 mg/day in Sep 2004 to 80 mg/day in Apr 2006 to 500mg/day in Nov 2006 to my current dose of about 1000 mg/day (Paul Wakfer, Longevinex). My lab work was last tested in Sep 2006 and is posted earlier (HDL 87, BP 105/70, Fast glucose 85 etc..) I will get a full workup again this Sept. The two main differences I have noticed since I upped my dose in November is a significant increase in my power and endurance in cycling and a lowering of my body weight setpoint from about 180 to about 172 lb (6'2", 46 years old). I also noticed an increase in my weight lifting ability (placebo?) which caused me to lift too much and brought back an arm injury which stopped my lifting. I believe the endurance has gone too far and long to be a placebo effect, but I could be wrong.

That's no placebo:

"LIQUID CONDITIONING. Scientists in France found that mice given massive amounts of resveratrol, a compound in grape skins, were able to run 2 kilometers before stopping-twice as far as those without the compound. Resveratrol activates sirtuins, enzymes that increase your muscle cells' power. A pill that sufficiently activates sirtuins is in development."[Men’s Health Magazine, Mar. 2007, p. 48]

That's no placebo:

I've read the study from Dr. Johan Auwerx and I know what it did for mice at high doses (human equivalent of about 4.5 g/day). That's the problem. Until someone does a randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled trial with humans that tests for endurance and strength then it's quite possible that what I'm experiencing is a placebo effect.

Even, if it was a placebo what the heck do you care :) Gains are gains!

But, I'm waiting for Resveratrol by Sirtris being SRT501 which only activated SIRT1 by 200+%. Better yet, Sirtris New Chemical Entities-1 (NCE-1) activates by 707% no comparison:
