Hey I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? For the past year and a half my teeth after a few months of sipping on tea get this yellowish tan on them. I do not drink coffee/smoke. The dentist can remove it (at a fee of almost $100, they dont whiten my teeth... they just brush them REALLY well with their special tools and it comes off) but it comes back a 4-6 months later all the time. I really don't get how this is possible...? I usually do 3 steeping of tea now, definitely does not change much. I do drink like 3-6 cups of tea a day but this does not seem to be a problem for others who drink as much as me.

And I never had yellowish tea before, it's really annoying. It's like a yellow taint that only the dentist can remove brushing, when I brush with my toothbrush it does not change.

I'm sure a ton of you here drink a lot of tea too (especially those on Cr... I am mostly on paleo), I don't get why this seem to only affect me...

My dentist told me to rinse my mouth with a little water after drinking tea or coffee to avoid staining.

I concur with Max. I'd add an atypical suggestion too. That is, use a straw; thereby bypassing (most) exposure to your teeth.

Hahaha, there goes any manliness left while drinking tea but I can see how that would be a good idea especially since my top frontal teeth are constantly exposed to it. I'll rinse my mouth every time from now on, thanks for the suggestion :)

natro, You are not the first, who has discolored teeth from tea, especially if You drink it often. The tea, together with the coffie and the cigaretes are factors, that discolor the teeth, and this is known in the dentistry from a long time.

Both advices are useful and actually are not atypical. They are being suggested from the dentists even today.

Another effective measure can be to brush Your teeth after each cup of tea.

The most effective measure will be to stop drinking so much tea.

A straw, rinsing and maybe a toothpaste that's got bleach in it, there are many.

+1 on the bleach. Between coffee, tea, and my blueberry habit, my teeth were starting to look like hell. I got a killer deal on Zoom Whitening, and the results were amazing. My dentist (not the person that did the Zoom) claims that bleaching isn't harmful if you don't overdo it, and I can't detect any problems with my own teeth, other than with some number of years having passed, it's about time to whiten again. Since the Zoom deal is gone, I will probably go with the slow cheap method of Crest Whitestrips.

I had some pretty significant staining from a coffee and tea habit. It developed a few months after my professional cleaning at the U of WA dental school. I rubbed my teeth well with plain baking soda (using my finger) and all the stains came right off.

I've been drinking tea everyday for years and have staining issues. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months and that helps... but tea stains, and it stains quickly and efficiently. I like to think I've got "good" teeth but man, if you've got any chips on those whites they gonna be stained quick if you drinkin the hell outta tea.

I am not actually sure, if all the types of tea color the teeth. Perhaps there are brands or types of tea, that do not color the teeth.

I like the idea of a straw, but then I wondered about half melting plastic from the delicious hot tea.

OP you could try a little bicarb brush every so often to keep them whiter?
