As a part time vegetarian and part time pescetarian I do sometimes indulge in a bit more fruit than is advised here. But it makes me feel better as it provides me with energy from nutrients, vitamins and natural sugars. But with that said I choose my fruits wisely, opting for the low fructose, high nutrient variety. One might think immediately of berries when thinking of this but there are a few other's.

The ones I consume with some regularity are

Asian pears (and other variety of pears)
Red plums
Black and red grapes (high anti-oxidant content)
cantaloupe
Strawberries
Blueberries
Bananas

I eat berries almost every day, as well as a banana or two. I incorporate the other's in when I can afford it since my shopping list must consist of a certain amount of other produce first.

In addition to berries I eat loads of citrus, particularly grapefruit and oranges. Also many avocados. And I eat those young white looking coconuts that are tasty but I think they're high sugar, saturated fat, and probably not the smartest choice. I love fruit. It's easy, portable, tasty, makes me feel good...

I'm not against eating grapefruits from time to time, but I otherwise stay away from citrus fruits with extremely high fructose content, which I think oranges are. But I don't think eating them sometimes will do harm. I sometimes drink orange juice when on the go as a good source of potassium. But if I had the choice i'd eat a banana instead. They actually have lower fructose than blueberries on a per calorie basis.

Well, sometimes I eat citrus and sometimes I don't. When I like it I eat it, when I don't like it I don't eat it. Eating isn't too complicated 4 me. I'm simple. My diet is only fruits and vegs, mostly raw but some steamed. Tiny amounts of legumes and some quinoa. What I eat depends upon the seasons, the weather, my mood, what's freshest in the stores, or sometimes pure whimsy, all kinds of factors. My diet -- including fruit -- isn't fixed. I eat whatever feels good, and don't worry much about individual food components like fructose, or whatever. But I do track it on cronometer, so I stay conscious, but aim for simplicity...

I eat about 1 portion of fruit a day. I usually just get whatever is reaonably priced. Bananas, various citrus, berries (that I pick/grow myself), apples (that I pick myself)

I prefer berries because of the lower carb/higher nutrient ratio.

Kiwi fruit from time-to-time, lower-ish carb content, supposedly helps with DNA repair.

Pomegranate, very well documented health benefits.

How are your blood tests for vitamins, minerals, nutrients? Have you had CRP tested? Thyroid function? Vitamin D levels? Do you take any supplements?

I prefer berries as well, but don't underestimate grapes. They are a great source of antioxidants as well. Plums too when finances are low. And both fruits are part of the 'low fructose' group. I eat 10-20 grapes a day when I buy them.

Hey, do you ever worry that you are destroying your enamel with all of the high acid fruits? Do you feel the people do not have to worry? Or, do you take preventive measure to neutralize the acids??

I don't really have that worry. I mean, I eat citrus but I eat it in reasonable amounts. Just to step back a bit:: I guess one of the problems with replying to a specific What-Food-Do--You-Eat? question in a public forum like this is that eating food is like a snapshot. I eat all kinds of food. Like you do. But at certain times, during certain seasons I may eat more of something and less of other things. But this doesn't mean citrus is all I ever eat... Diets are dynamic. But I tend to stay with mostly vegan, mostly raw, mostly fruits and vegetables of dozens of species, and I haven't yet noticed enamel destruction...

I guess my point is -- if i ate 2 oranges a day 6-7 days a week at different times of the day -- would i start to have problems at age 80 or 90 because of the acid (even if i wash my teeth with water after eating). This is the type of information id like to know.

The answer is yes. You probably would. Then again, at 80 to 90 years old you'll probably have dental problems anyway regardless of your citrus eating dilemmas. Eventually teeth, well, they're part of the fragile structure of the universe. Physical law, all that. But ask yourself (perhaps absurdly) is it realistic you'd gorge on so many oranges for the next 60 odd years? Maybe if you live on an orange grove? But probably not. Maybe you'll eat a few oranges today, a few tomorrow, then none for a week, then maybe a tangerine next Thursday. Or perhaps 25 kumquats in October. Realistically, you'll eat all kinds of stuff, no? It'll all influence your dental health to some degree.

I just had a plum with a banana and a few strawberries. Loveliest of fruit combinations. What you do is you bite the plum, bite the banana and pop a small strawberry into your mouth and then just enjoy the exquisite flavor of this beauteous combination.
