Standing on one leg, eyes closed

okok's Photo okok 29 Dec 2012

I've seen this mentioned as an indicator for real physical age. Try how long you can do it.
Of course best not tried after having some champagne...

Happy New Year, Guten (Aus)Rutsch!

Sorry I'm allergic to wheat and guten.

i will have to test this out. I already do this as part of Chi Kung practice but I have never really thought about how long I can go for.

What could be the reason for the shape of the closed eye graph? Does it suggest that non-visually supported proprioception degenerates much faster with age? Is this an effect of the brain, an effect of the ears, muscles, what? Details!

Standing on one leg with eyes closed may:

- give false shorter results in case of some diseases, that alter the balance, such as meniere's disease

- be deliberatly falsificated (shortened) by the examined person

- be trained, and thus to give false longer results

Indicators of biological age are searched in order to be determined the real age of persons, who claim to be very old.

So, if the test can be deliberately shortened or prolongated this test looses its purpose.

I do that sometimes before a set of squats. I think I read somewhere (Pavel Tsatsouline?) that it can trigger some reflex that makes you stronger in the short term.

btw with eyes closed it's hard. I doubt 60 seconds is the average for any age group.
