I had some unusual issues in my mid teens and was examined by a couple of mental health professionals who decided to put me on an antipsychotic. My psychiatrist kept increasing the dose until I lost interest in just about everything. I would sit all day watching TV and do little else. Last year my antipsychotic was changed to a different one and I became more interested in things again. Unfortunately after years of antipsychotic use I find that my memory is poor and so is my attention span. This wasn't the case before I started taking medication. Is this a permanent side effect of longterm use or not? I look forward to your reply. Thank you!

Sounds more like the effect of the untreated cause of your hmm.. issues. Most of the come from the deficiency of the certain fatty acids and the other easily treatable conditions. You can hide symptoms of such deficiences or poisonings with certain drugs, but it will continue to undermine your brain.

And, of course, some drugs can have side effects like that, but we need to know which ones you took.
