I'm thinking of adding L-Theanine (200mg NOW brand) to my current stack (Adderall or Ritalin, Bacopa, Ashwagandha, Fish Oil), but I'm unsure how to use it. Do I need caffeine to experience nootropic effects, or will my Adderall be sufficient? What are your experiences with L-Theanine? What is the mechanism behind the synergistic effects of Theanine and Caffeine?
L-Theanine + Caffeine..Substitute other stimulant (adderall/ritalin/modafinil) for caffeine?

Modafinil will last all day. It's not just a stimulant. If you're like most people, you won't be able to sleep for at least 12-15 hours after dosing. Keep that in mind.
Theanine and caffeine works great. The combination occurs naturally in tea. Caffeine inhibits GABA (via adenosine receptors), causing excitation of much of the nervous system. Theanine synergizes by calming you and making you more focused and able to stay on task.
For me, caffeine works great for performance enhancement. When I'm studying and need to sit still, I'll generally prefer to add in Theanine.
I prefer to use caffeine for output, and caffeine and theanine for input.
If you're looking for a stronger learning stack, there's a lot of good advice in the "chemically induced LTP" thread.
However, for most people Caffeine and Theanine is sufficient.
If you're going to step it up and pursue something stronger, it'll generally be longer lasting substances.
