I'm going to try out Bacopa and want to be sure I take doses that match what studies have shown. I've seen that most studies show you need 300mg ..standardized to 55-percent combined bacosides A and B, this has all that, the label :

Amount Per
Serving

% Daily
Value

ORGANIC BACOPA WHOLE PLANT (BACOPA MONNIERI PENNELL)(STANDARDIZED EXTRACT)

ORGANIC BACOPA WHOLE PLANT (60% BACOPA SAPONINS CONTAINING BACOSIDE A&B)
60 Mg

ORGANIC BACOPA WHOLE PLANT (1% BACOPA SAPONINS CONTAINING BACOSIDE A&B - 6.5MG)
650 Mg
N/A*

So in order to match the studies do I need to take at least three of these a day? It's the extract that matters right, not the 650mg whole plant..yes? I've done searches on the forums but people are mainly discussing just MG and don't specify if it has to be extract or not. Thanks!

the whole plant component does have a small amount of bacosides according to the label (6.5 mg).

The extract component provides .6*60 = 36 mg bacosides (that's assuming the "bacopa saponins" component consist entirely of bacoside A&B... not sure if that is true)

each cap would contain .6*60 + 6.5 = 42.5 mg of bacosides.

so you'd need to take 3-4 caps a day, to reach the 165 mg of (combined) bacosides A & B you want.

this could be another option - it provides about 115 mg bacosides per capsule (so only needs two caps to reach your desired dose):

That label is not current formulation. Himalaya changed the formulation but it is not updated on the store's websites. Here's the current formulation.

I take one a day and I believe it should be enough.

The 250 mg Brahmi extract capsules from Himalaya sold in India aren't organic - and actually contain 500 mg of a plant powder, as all other of their 250 mg capsules in their 'pure herbs' product range sold in India.

Comparing for example their recommended dose of Liv.52 between the syrup and tablet form - the first with extracts and the second with powders of exactly the same herbal ingredients - it appears that the plant extracts in their 'pharmaceuticals' product line sold in India are actually with a concentration of 2:1, and not at least 4:1-5:1, which we are used to here in the west in respect to standardized extracts. 2:1 seems to be the common concentration of herbal extracts from most companies in India, as I found out on my recent trip there. The supplement facts there could also be really misleading, some could state for example: 'Contains extract from 700mg Brahmi'. If one weight the concerned tablet/caps it becomes clear they actually mean 350mg of a 2:1 extract.

Since Himalaya 'pure herb' capsules actually contain double the declared mgs of a herbal powder, I do suspect they really contain the equivalent of a 2:1 plant extract (most common in India) in it's plain powder form..

.. or half the content of these capsules are unspecified filler.
