eating is an anti-depressent?

I've noticed something, if I am in a poor depressed anti social mood, I find that after I eat a meal the symptoms are less, I feel neutrally social and my depression is at the low end.

Has anyone noticed this, why is this?

Well obviously being hungry will make you feel grumpy. Then after eating you have the effects of insulin, and your glycemia coming back to normal..

Since you're asking for anecdotal reports I can definitely confirm that eating high sugar/fat foods especially if you're in a CR diet the whole year leads to a huge surge of dopamine which annihilate depression and anxiety. Last year I was going through a very bad brain cancer scare where I couldn't function for 2 weeks and the only thing that kept me going was a steady supply of maccarons and chocolate.
On another note, after a fasting day a meal makes me incredibly happy (then very full and grodgy but that's another story).

Especially if the macarons are from Pierre Hermé. That stuff is more powerful than a full stack of antidepressant and opium combined.. I almost needed to go into detox to stop me from buying them everyday.

Everyone has their trigger binge foods but nothing comes close to a box of Pierre hermé maccarons.

I've always told myself, even if I get diagnosed with a fatal disease, as long as it doesn't destroy my palate then I'll keep going ;) . Those get soo expensive tho especially when you think you've got brain cancer and neither money nor calories matter anymore haha.

Eating causes a release of various hormones and increase in some neurotransmission in and of it self. Then its effects on glucose.

Furthermore certain foods are metabolized into various neurotransmitters pretty quickly. Many foods contain L-tryphotphan and is metabolized to serotonin. Meat et al contains DLPA which turns to dopamine and noradrenaline.

Other foods contain various other mood lifting drugs. One example is chocolate which contains small amounts of PEA which effectively acts as short acting amfetamine.

For me food is more like a mood stabiliser specially to stop a mania phase.
