Supplements/herbs that actually slow the p...

This post is in response to IronLife's topic on Vitamin E / NAC accelerating lung cancer. I was particularly alarmed by this news, as I smoked for a while and have naturally have high levels of cysteine in my system.
So for the record, I'd like to put together an exhaustive list of supplements and herbs that have been documented to do the opposite. Would be great also for those who are resistant to treatment to know what other options they have.
So far, I have Coriolus Versicolor (Turkey Tail) which hinders the growth of advanced stage non-small cell Lung Cancer. I imagine this may be attributable to its potent immune-enhancing effects.
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/12814145
I also have Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat Ali) which suppresses several markers and genes associated with cancer cell growth. This is possibly a result of its potent cytotoxic activities:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21903368
Eleutherococcus Senticosus (Siberian Ginseng), although this appears to be more general, and as with Turkey Tail (above) appears to be rooted in its anti-metastatic activity by enhancing immune factors:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/15234760
Lindera Strychifolia:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/14992538
The compound Emodin.
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/22799356
Anti-angiogenic herbs (multiple), which would cut off the generation of fresh blood vessels in the tumors:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC1891166/
Stephania Tetrandra, although this appears to only be useful in augmentation with drug therapies of diagnosed tumors by getting rid of drug resistance:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/20387234
An interesting study here, on 'Korean Medicinal Therapy' which was used SOLELY to treat Advanced Stage IV lung cancer. A mixture of methods were used here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3861875/
The multi-formulated medicine 'Rasagenthi Lehyam' also appears to have efficacy:
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/16311913
Feel free to add to this.

i think nac has been shown to be more beneficial for lung cancer in several studies?

Wait a minute, naturally high levels of cysteine? You mean you have free cysteine floating around? I've never heard of this. Not saying you're wrong, but could you expand on that a bit? How do you know you have high levels? It's not clear that having a naturally high level of Cys would be the same as taking NAC.
As far as avoiding lung cancer, you should avoid supplemental carotenoids and vitamin E.

There's a school of thought that the main carcenogenic components of tobacco smoke are polonium and iron, and because these metals hang around for years, this is why X-Smokers often still run into trouble even long after they quit smoking. Interestingly, of the three forms of asbestos, crocidolite is known to be much more carcenogenic than the others and crociolite contains substantially more iron.

http://link.springer...0534-008-9156-5 Tobacco smoke iron: an initiator/promoter of multiple diseases
"Tobacco smoking enhances risk for a diversity of acute and chronic diseases. Iron is a constant prominent component of mainstream tobacco smoke. The manifold toxic activities of inhaled iron could be responsible for a notable portion of the spectrum of smoking-related diseases."
If this theory is true, chelating the iron and/or polonium from smokers lungs would be an important consideration for smokers and/or X-Smokers and it appears IP6 may be the best medicine for this.
IP6 is the only substance suspected of being able to chelate uranium, which is closely related to polonium.

Inositol hexaphosphate: a potential chelating agent for uranium
"The results showed a strong affinity of inositol hexaphosphate for uranium, suggesting that it could be an effective chelating agent for uranium in vivo."
IP6 is also the most effective natural chelator of iron (though bloodletting is far more effective at removing total iron stores). Perhaps this explains the anti-cancer properties of IP6, particularly in regard to cancer avoidance in former smokers.

Cancer Inhibition by Inositol Hexaphosphate (IP6) and Inositol: From Laboratory to Clinic
It appears taking plain myo-inositol in combination with IP6 will provide the best results.
Lowering total body iron stores through bloodletting / donation also appears to be effective.

It's not a supplement, and it's old news, but I have heard that broccoli actually helps the lungs of smokers, and if cancer develops, it will slow down the progression of it.

To agwoodliffe: Could you please point me to a place where I can find Rasagenthi Lehyam?
