I have been taking either Adderall or Vyvanse almost daily for several years now, and am hoping to wean myself off and support my mind with other supplements/nootropics. The only problem is, my body has developed such a dependance to the stimulant medications that it is hard for me to even get out of bed without them, and having an intellectual conversation or doing any type of work that involves greater cognitive ability is even more difficult (sad, I know). I've had some luck with phenypiracetam and adrafinil, especially when supplementing them with tyrosine, fish oil, caffeine, sam-e and carnitine.

Once work gets a little less busy (in about a month or so), I think I can get myself off the Vyvanse, at least 4 days a week, provided I have sam-e, tyrosine, theanine, and caffeine available :p. I'll probably take adrafinil and/or phenylracetam at least a couple days a week, though.

Are these the best alternatives to amphetamines? Any tips on how to cycle them? Also, are drugs and supplements such as Modafinil and Tyrosine even better for the body and mind long-term than amphetamines or other stimulants such as Vyvanse? Thanks!

High dose adrafinil like 1200mg if all I can think of really on that level
I'd check your free t3 and am cortisol level and total testosterone if you are that dependent on that medication

Just want to make sure I'm understanding everything you suggested:  What would be the purpose of getting my testosterone, free t3, and am cortisol levels checked?  Could the medication have caused some kind of reversible hard that would affect those results?  Thanks!

Oh, and to clarify, I think that I could switch from Vyvanse to Adrafinil and, after some time off Vyvanse, function totally fine.  I'm just trying to find out if drugs like Modafinil are even better for cognitive functioning long-term than drugs liek Vyvanse.

Modafinil being better on the body/mind really depends on your usage. If you only use it every once in a while, it will be far less harmful to you in the long run that an amphetamine would be. However, if you're using it every day and forcing yourself to stay awake, perform work for long periods of time, etc., that has its own negative consequences, as your body shouldn't be put under that kind of strain.

A high dose of adrafinil was mentioned above, and I think it should be noted that adrafinil is metabolized into modafinil. While you'll get similar effects as modafinil, the fact that it's metabolized means there can be long term hepatic consequences, which has already been speculated and researched. 1200mg adrafinil versus a standard dose of 200mg modafinil. Or even 150mg armodafinil if you're trying to match the effects of Vyvanse (a friend of mine came off Vyvanse to modafinil, which is not nearly as strong, but does what my friend needs it to do - armodafinil may be better depending on your needs).

Hormones tests test for hormone problems..

good luck getting aromadafinil without a narcolepsy diagnosis. Moda never did anything for me. Adrafinil on the other hand can be nice at 1200mg
