A dietician I spoke with recently tried telling me that I shouldn't consume caffeinated green tea because it would dehydrate me. However, up until now I've always been under the impression that even high-caffeine beverages such as coffee still provide a net-hydrating effect as the amount of water consumed with it outweighs whatever dehydrating effect the caffeine might have.
So green tea and white tea - which are particularly low in caffeine to begin with and being comprised entirely water - seem like very unlikely candidates to actually dehydrate the individual consuming them.
Is what she saying at all possible? Even when consuming large amounts of it?
Typically I try to drink a pot or two of tea per day plus some mineral water and never find myself feeling dehydrated.
