I see that CDP Choline is usually recommended as part of any routine that depletes choline, usually in regards to racetams. Does this mean it shouldn't be taken on its own at all?

Citicoline is a psychostimulant/nootropic in itself. It is broken down in to choline and uridine in the brain. Choline is right away converted to acetylcholine, which, as you known, is an extremely important neurotransmitter for focus, concentration, learning and memory. Uridine regulates/modulates the dopamine system in the brain. CDP-Choline also increases(upregulates) dopamine receptor densities(http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC1908237/) in the brain. It also has neuroprotective and antioxidant effects, increases blood flow to the brain, increases glucose(sugar) metabolism of the brain and increases Tyrosine Hydroxylase(The enzyme that converts the amino acid L-Tyrosine in to Dopamine). All in all it is an amazing supplement to take alone. Though I imagine it would have a synergistic effect with the racetams.
Good Luck with your supplement endeavours.

Thanks for the detailed info! So with a 250mg of CDP Choline, is that too much to take daily? I also recall reading it has a long half life..2 days or so??
So maybe twice a week 250mg is ok?

Standaring doses goes from 500mg to 2000mg daily, divided in two takes separated by 8-12 hours.

Quite a few people get depressive symptoms from taking cdp choline including myself. If it happens with you switch to alpha-gpc. GPC can be felt at 600+mgs.
250mgs seems pretty low to get any acetylcholine pathway gains.
I don't advise this but there is actually a way to tell if a choline supplement is actually hitting the receptors. All you have to do is take some nicotine without having any in your system. Initial nicotine uptake will cause me to become lightheaded and just generally out of it for a couple minutes. If the choline supp is already at the nictonic receptors it will block most of the lightheadedness.
