what do you think of "Z drugs" aka drugs prescribed for insomnia such as Sonata, Lunesta, and Ambien as a gabaergic? These are non benzo sedative/hypnotic that acts on the gaba a receptor as an agonist. Are these useful for OCD? These are controlled 5 drugs like benzos like Xanax.

for taking during the day? I see no advantage of zdrugs over benzos because you have more options in terms of pharmacological profile. The biggest advantage of z drugs is they are considered "less abusable" I don't really see a point to them if you are not abusing benzos. They both cause tolerance/addiction. I have not researched much into ocd though, I am just giving my thoughts on z drugs versus benzos.

Benzos are more for stopping a panic attack within 5 minutes. Z drugs are meant to be a sleep aid.
