Hi everyone,

I'm currently taking the following vitamins and minerals to many purposes (primarily 'health', to help with sport (>10h per week) and hairloss) and I've been thinking about taking a multi in order to reduce the amount of pills I take every day.

Here's the list:

  • D3+k2 (200 mcg and 1000IU)
  • vit C (1gr per day)
  • Vitamin E (as d-Alpha Tocopherol plus d-Beta, d-Delta and d-Gamma Tocopherols) (100IU)
  • Vitamin B1 (as thiamine mononitrate) 25 mg 1667% Vitamin B2 (as riboflavin) 25 mg 1470% Vitamin B3 (as niacin) 25 mg 130% Vitamin B3 (as niacinamide) 100 mg 500% Vitamin B5 (as calcium D-pantothenate) 100 mg 1000% Pantethine (Vitamin B5 derivative) 25 mg * Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCl) 25 mg 1250% Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxal 5-phosphate) 10 mg 500% Folate (as QUATREFOLIC (6S)-5-methyl-tetrahydrofolic acid glucosamine salt) 400 mcg 100% Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin) 100 mcg 1670% Biotin 300 mcg 100% Choline (as choline bitartrate) 50 mg * Inositol 50 mg * PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) 30 mg
  • Iodine from kelp 225 mcg
  • magnesium citrate 320mg
  • Zinc 30mg
  • selenium 100mcg

I have been thinking about taking a the multi or at least a thorne pic-min complex in order to reduce the amount of pills, thae thorne comple contains:

Zinc (as Zinc Picolinate) 15 mg 100% Selenium (as Selenomethionine) 100 mcg 143% Manganese (as Manganese Picolinate) 2.5 mg 125% Chromium (as Chromium Chelidamate Arginate) 100 mcg 83% Molybdenum (as Molybdenum Picolinate) 50 mcg 67% Boron (as Boron Picolinate) 700 mcg * Vanadium (as Vanadium Picolinate) 50 mcg

I have also thought about taking life extension two daily (and vitC and magnesium) but the amount of vitamin A worries me as I think it's too high.

What do you think?

Nothing wrong with multivitamins, so long as they provide the ratios you want.  I prefer to avoid excess Vitamin-A myself, and prefer low doses I can take twice a day to keep levels stable.  Multi's also often contain oil soluble vitamins in dry/synthetic form (E & D) and I prefer the natural forms in oil suspensions.

I would avoid multi's that include minerals, as here again the ratios rarely are where I prefer them to be.  I like to avoid supplemental iron, copper and excess calcium, and most multis with minerals provide a substantial dose of these bad actors.

Minerals are also notorious for causing transient GI / stomach distress, so I prefer to supplement these separately...  Only what I want and in the doses I prefer.  Individual mineral supplements typically come in doses larger than I want, so a pill cutter comes in handy.

Have you looked at Biotin for hair support?  The German who discovered Biotin called it Vitamin-H, as he found it was good for "haar & haut" (hair & hide/skin).  Silica/silicon has also been shown helpful in supporting lush hair.

Intense exercise (particularly running/jogging) has been shown to cause anemia in females due to footstrike / heelstrike hemolysis, and anemia is notorious for hair loss.  A look at your blood ferritin level might be in order.  Always best to get iron from dietary sources rather than supplements.  Vitamin B-12 and Folate are also needed for blood formation.

Hope this helps.

thanks synesthesia.

I have sent an email to lifeextension to see what amount of the A vitamina is in betacarotene form. The other vitamins and mins seems right for me.

I have been taking biotin, MSM and cysteine for my hair, jointly with minoxidil, and at the moment I'm keeping the hair on my head. (I'm 24, and being bald before 30 would be a huge hit for me).

My major concern is to overdose liposoluble vitamins, but with a 2 daily multi I can just take 1 pill the das in which I rest or the training is less hard. The thing is that right now I'm taking far much pills and It would be better to reduce the amount (for convenience).

And about taking oil soluble vitamins in a dr vehicle I think that with the higher amount that multis use to contain the effect is offset. What do you think?

I have sent an email to lifeextension to see what amount of the A vitamina is in betacarotene form.

Once asked about their LEF Mix on their old forum:

Supplement Facts
Vitamin A (as 90% Betatene®1 D. salina natural beta-carotene with mixed carotenoids and 10% acetate)    5000 IU

5000 IU of LEF mix consist of 344 mcg retinyl actate and 2400 mcg of beta-carotene.

Might have been reformulated since.

I haven't seen the amount on their website and iherb and I decided that the best way to know it would be send them an email. If they have kept that amount of 90% betacarotenes then LE two per way will be my best option due to its vitamins and minerals % and its price (I'm a student and my budget is tight).

If you're looking to un-complicate your supplement stack, then I have no problem with this solution.  I'm a bit of an alchemist with my supp's and enjoy formulating my own stack.

Better to simplify than give up and hope diet alone keeps you 100% optimised 100% of the time.  For most folks, it doesn't.

That's it. I want to make it easy because I'm out from 7am to 21pm 5 days a week, so it's easier for me to take it all in a single pill (or two like in many multis).

I would like to do the same as you but it's a matter of having time and a nice budget in order to able to buy the best forms and all those things.
