Hi there, I am coming to this community in hopes of finding an answer, and possibly a remedy for what I've been experiencing for the last 5 days.  Its been difficult because my mind is not operating at 100%, and what's making it worse is that I just started a new job, and this is just adding to the stress and learning curve, and making it difficult to connect with others.  Please bear with me, as I'm finding it a challenge to form clear thoughts.

What happened was pretty simple... I took one Ortho-Mind pill on Saturday night.  I noticed some slight brain fog during the day Sunday, but nothing major.  Well that all changed almost immediately Sunday night, when I decided to enjoy some whiskey.  It went from a slight fog to almost pounding sensation in my brain... Ever since then it's just felt like there is a brick in my brain.  Can't think clearly, slightly more anxious, and just don't feel "right".

Is there a logical explanation for this, and is there anything I can do?

Any help would be a godsend, I am not feeling well at all!

Quote "some whiskey" ... Did you leave any in the bottle?

Sounds like some bad, bad whiskey.. ;-)  What was the name,. so I can avoid that.

Haha, the problem was not the whiskey, as I had had some a out of the same bottle a few days prior with no negative effects.  The night in question, I only had about a shots worth, mixed with cola.

It was definitely a synergistic effect, because I had some mild brain fog the day after taking the supplement, then the addition of alcohol made the sensation a lot worse.

The brain fog has gotten a little better, but still present.  Last night I came upon a wiki about brain fog (cannot post links), and one of the recommended treatments was virgin coconut oil, so I gave it a shot and it helped a bit.

This experience was borderline scary, but hopefully I am over the worst of it.

Joking aside..I had lead poison 4 years ago.. afterwards a friend suggested Choline.. I took 750 mg 1-2 x day.. and day 5 woke up.. I take it normally once a day now.  Plus B-12 and other supplements..

I have also taken several different nootropics..

I contribute them for better cognitive functions now.

R-ALA displaces heavy metals and move them to the brain and may stay there permanently (such as Hg transforming into Hg2+).

It could be that as your formula contains R-ALA.

There I'm copying a quote but you will find this information everywhere else on google : "I just wanted to warn you. If you have dental amalgam or mercury fillings, taking ALA will pull it from your mouth and into the blood stream. Even worse, since ALA can cross the blood brain barrier, it can cause mercury to shift if you brain to cause permanent damage.

There is a certain protocol once you get all your dental fillings out (IAOMT) and take DMSA and ALA for 3 days every three hours to chelate the mercury out safely. "

Sadly you're not the first one, R-ALA is sold without any warning and many people damage their brains by mistake, already saw a case on this forum and you will find many others on other forums.

Interesting... could you post a link to study?  I searched google and found nothing.

And, why would alcohol effect this?

By the way I am not 100% recovered from this yet... My brain still feels weird, though it has improved slightly.  It's now been over a week since I took just that one pill.

Coming up on a month now and I'm still not quite 100%.  Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem/interaction might have been?

Scary stuff... Please use extreme caution with these sups!
