Started with NAC (Jarrow) last friday. Some people report effects (any effect) just after a few hours, but I just have slight stomach irritation.
The first day I took one capsule 500 mg, Saturday 500 morning, empty stomach and in the afternoon a second, some on Sunday and today I tried 1000 mg on an empty stomach. I will take a third in the afternoon and after two weeks I'm planning on taking 2000 mg a day when I'm not feeling anything extraordinary.

The magnesium l-threonate does influence my heart rate. Of course I can't say if there's a heart condition, but the magnesium does aggravate an already uneasy heart rate (that I suspect is more due to chronic underlying stress from obsessive thinking). I just took 1 capsule today to see how it goes. A little magnesium isn't bad I guess.

I also added ginko biloba (from Swanson)

Maybe I'll try one or two serotonergic supplements later on. I don't have a budget right now for more.

Looking forward to read your results with NAC

I'm taking NAC for just over 3 weeks and I think it is doing something positive.
Certainly I still have intrusive thoughts (the same one), which becomes worse when I begin to worry and feel dissapointed again.
But there is more room for normal thinking and I especially when I'm around people or do something fun I don't have much intrusive thoughts.  When 'it' does come up I just feel so relieved because it has been gone for a while...
I take 1000 mg in the morning (empty stomach) and 1000 mg late afternoon. I'm wondering about the sustained version from Jarrow. Could it be better?

I'm also still looking up anecdotal reports on memantine. Is NAC a 'light' version of it? Does anybody know the differences in method of action?

Second update: I'm having a consultation with a psychiatrist in the last week of Januari 2017. I want to ask him/her about memantine and SSRI's as well.
I'm hoping I can get some answers on the differences between fluvoxamine and escitalopram, since the first one did work better. I was on quite a bumpy road with escitalopram the first 6 months and this wasn't the case with fluvoxamine. I really wanna try to figure out my chances with this drug since it has been 6/7 years when I was on it.
But I would like to try memantine first.

Third update: I want to add something serotonergic before going on an SSRI again.
Inositol, Sam-E, Bacopa, Curcumin....I don't know! ;-)
